DA PORTABICCHIERI A PORTACONDIMENTI // From Beer Glasses holder to Condiments Holder

 

Come vi avevo anticipato, dal mio ultimo giretto alla Maisons du monde ho preso un articolo al quale ho cambiato la destinazione d’uso: da portabicchieri per la birra a portacondimenti.

Ho l’abitudine di portare sempre in tavola due tipi di olio, due di aceto sale pepe, stuzzicanti e cavatappi, ma il mio cestino era ormai troppo piccolo, così questo portabicchieri faceva proprio al caso mio!

 

During my last visit to the Maisons du monde I took an article perfect for my Repurpose file: from beer glasses holder to condiments holder.

I always bring on my table two types of oil, two vinegar, salt pepper, toothpicks and bottle opener, but my basket was too small so this one was just right for me!

ISTRUZIONI PANCA DA GIARDINO // GARDEN BENCH INSTRUCTIONS

ISTRUZIONI:

I blocchi sono stati prima lavati con idropulitrice, successivamente dipinti con vernice a spruzzo.

Una volta preparato e livellato il terreno, i blocchi sono stati posati con l’aiuto della bolla e usando colla milleusi. In questa configurazione noi abbiamo preferito aggiungere anche una vite per fissare ulteriormente il bocco verticale dello schienale alla struttura.

Per la seduta le assi sono state sagomato di modo che si incastrino nei blocchi, i pali dello schienale sono infilati nei fori dei blocchi, tranne l’ultimo in cima che è avvitato sulla sommità dei blocchi verticali, per dare più stabilità al tutto.

Naturalmente mi sono fatta aiutare dagli uomini di casa: mio figlio ha dipinto i blocchi, mio marito ha segato pali e tavole e forato i blocchi. Io ho preparato la posa, assemblato e incollato i blocchi e dipinto il legno. L’altro mio figlio faceva l’aiutante per tutti, insomma Lavoro di squadra!

INSTRUCTIONS:

The blocks were first washed with a high-pressure washer, then painted with spray paint.

Once prepared and levelled the soil, the blocks were laid with the help of bubble and using “milleusi” glue. In this configuration we preferred to add a screw to further fix the vertical seat back to the structure.

For the seat the boards have been shaped so that they fit in the blocks, the backrest poles are inserted in the holes of the blocks, except the last one, at the top, that is screwed on the the vertical blocks, to give more stability.

Of course I got help from my men: my son painted the blocks, my husband sawed poles and boards and drilled the blocks. I prepared the pose, assembled and glued the blocks and painted the wood. My other son was the helper for everyone, this is teamwork!

PANCA DA GIARDINO FAI DA TE // D.I.Y. GARDEN BENCH

 

Rieccomi qui, torno dopo molto tempo sul blog con un progetto fai da te fatto interamente con materiali di recupero che avevo già. Una panca da giardino in blocchi di cemento e legno!

L’ispirazione l’ho presa da Pinterest dove ci sono tantissimi progetti con i blocchi,  le motivazione principali sono il costo irrisorio e la resistenza della panca!

Questi blocchi in cemento giacevano dietro casa almeno dagli anni 70, i pali di legno erano avanzati da un altro progetto, le tavole vengono da un vecchio carro.

Ho comprato solo la vernice, la colla e l’impregnante con circa 15 euro. Trovate le istruzioni e le foto del processo nel prossimo post.

Oltre alla soddisfazione di creare la panca da me, mi fa felice l’idea che non dovrò preoccuparmi che arrugginisca (come con quelle di metallo), né che sia troppo piccola o debole per accogliere tre persone adulte come volevo, quando le parti in legno saranno rovinate non sarà un problema sostituirle.

Posso decorarla in modo differente cambiando accessori e colori: cuscini, tappeto, candele, lanterne, luci, con ombrellone, senza, con tenda, ….

Al momento ho riutilizzato un vecchio ombrellone blu per proteggere dagli aghi di pino chi sta seduto, ho aggiunto un tappeto da esterno preso da Casashop a 5 euro, riutilizzato 4 cuscini da sedia spaiati unendoli in una fodera fatta con una tenda Ikea avanzata.

After a long time I am back on the blog with a DIY project made entirely with recycled materials, that I already had. A garden bench made of concrete blocks and wood!

The inspiration comes from Pinterest, where there are lots of projects with blocks, my motivation is made of the derisory cost and the resistance of the bench!

These concrete blocks were behind my house from the 70s, the wooden poles remained from another project, the boards come from an old wagon.

I only bought the paint, the glue and the color for about 15 euros. You will find the instructions with pictures in the next post.

I’m satisfied because it’s a diy project and  I am happy I will not worry about  rust (as for a metal bench).

 It is enough large and sturdy to accommodate three adults and when the wooden parts will be ruined it will not be a problem to replace them.

I can decorate it differently changing accessories and colors: cushions, carpet, candles, lanterns, lights, with umbrella, without, with curtains....

Right now I reused an old blue beach umbrella (to protect me from pine needles), I added an outdoor carpet bought at Casashop for 5 euros, reused 4 unpaired chair cushions joining them in a lining made with an advanced Ikea curtain.

Ieri sono stata al Mercatino dell’artigianato organizzato da In-Officina, ricordate? Vi avevo già parlato di questo luogo affascinante in occasione di uno Stoffa-day, vedi questo post.

OFFICE TEA CORNER

Ho deciso di creare un angolo dedicato al tè sulla mia scrivania!

.

Tornata al lavoro dopo le vacanze non volevo più bere caffè e tè dalla macchinetta dell’ufficio, non facevano per niente bene al mio stomaco.

.

Questo tea corner potrebbe occasionalmente servire anche per il caffè, per ora infatti ho solo quello solubile, ma posso sempre aggiungere la mia moka elettrica!!

.

La mia postazione di lavoro è grande, comprende 4 scrivanie; qualche anno fa la ditta per cui lavoro ha ingrandito gli uffici, io ho potuto disegnare le postazioni di lavoro per me e i miei 12 colleghi, nell’open space che condividiamo. Quindi non è stato un problema trovare un po di spazio, qui vi mostro il prima e il dopo dell’angolo tè.

I have created a tea corner on my desk!

Back to work after the holiday I’ve chosen to avoid drinking coffee or tea from the bevarage vending machine,  they are not good for my stomach.

.

This tea corner can occasionally offer coffee, now I have only instant coffee, but I can add my electric moka for espresso!!

My work station is big, it has 4 desks; a few years ago the company I work for enlarged the offices, I could design the work stations for me and my 12 colleagues in our open space. So I had no problem to add this tea corner, here you can see the before&after.

LE GALLERIE DELLE PRIGIONI - TREVISO

Durante le vacanze ho fatto la “turista a casa mia”, come dice la blogger Roberta di padovaedintorni.it.  Sono andata a fare una passeggiata a Treviso, e ho visitato la mostra “I Say Yesterday, You Hear Tomorrow. Visions from Japan” presso le Gallerie delle prigioni in piazza Duomo.

Se anche voi, come me, non conoscevate questo luogo è perché è stato inaugurato l’aprile scorso, dopo il restauro curato dall’architetto Tobia Scarpa per Fondazione Benetton, e ha in programma una serie di mostre davvero interessanti, potete trovare tutte le info sul progetto e sulle mostre qui  e qui.
Il recupero delle prigioni asburgiche nasce dall’idea di Luciano Benetton di trasformarle in un nuovo spazio dedicato all’arte contemporanea ad accesso gratuito. Vi consiglio di visitarlo. Ho perso la prima mostra, ma quella attuale mi è piaciuta molto, come mi è piaciuto ovviamente il restauro, bello il fatto che questo edificio storico in posizione così centrale sia rinato e torni ad essere utile alla città con un fine molto più nobile di quello originale.

During this holiday I became “tourist in my hometown” as said by Roberta from padovaedintorni.it.  I took a walk in Treviso and I visited the exhibition “I Say Yesterday, You Hear Tomorrow. Visions from Japan “ located in Le Gallerie delle prigioni - piazza Duomo.  This ancient building has been closed for decades, but it has been recently renovated by architect Tobia Scarpa for Fondazione Benetton. Thanks to Luciano Benetton this place has become a modern art gallery with free access. I liked very much the actual exhibition but many more have to come, for information read here. 

RI-USO N°7: lampade dal salotto alla camera // REPURPOSE No 7: lamps from the living room to the bedroom

Alcune volte la soluzione più facile e efficace sta davanti ai nostri occhi ma non la vediamo. In questo caso la mia voglia di provare cose nuove, mi nascondeva l idea che unisce efficacia e riutilizzo di ciò che già ho in casa, a me tanto caro. 

Per la mia camera da letto alla fine (vedi related posts) ho scelto di eliminare le luci a parete a favore di due lampade che avevo in salotto che si abbinano benissimo allo stile del letto e allo spazio: una da tavolo e una piantana, che in salotto sarebbero state comunque sostituite.

Sometimes the best solution is in front of us and we don’t see it. Maybe my desire to try something new was hiding the right idea, the one that solves the problem and gives the opportunity to me to use something that I already have in a different way.

In my master bedroom I have finally (see related posts) decided to remove the wall lamps and to add a table lamp and a floor lamp with shape and style matching well the bed and furniture; those two ones come from my living room, and will have to be replaced anyway.

FUORIPORTA CON 4 EURO // 4 EUROS DIY FRONT DOOR WREATH

Volevo una ghirlanda fuori porta dallo stile minimal come quelle che vi ho mostrato nell’ultimo post, però grande, perché si vedesse anche da lontano. Questa soluzione è veramente facile e economica e si presta a diverse aggiunte e varianti, per la versione che vedete in tutto ho speso 4 euro.

Il cerchio e il nastro li avevo a casa, il cerchio è di recupero viene da un vecchio paralume.

Le foglie artificiali sono costate 2,99 euro, le ho divise tagliandole con una forbice pesante perché hanno l’anima in metallo. Le ho fissate con delle fascette di plastica. L’uccellino di legno è una decorazione Pasquale da 1 euro. Il bello è che posso scegliere se lasciarla vuota, cambiare di volta in volta l’uccellino con qualcos’altro, o aggiungere un fiore alle foglie, ecc.

I wanted a front door wreath with minimal style, such the ones shown on my last post, but a BIG one, because I like to see it from the street. This solution is very easy and chip, I can change it very fast; the version you see costs 4 Euros.

I already had the ring and ribbon, the ring comes from an old lampshade.

The faux leaves cost 2,99 Euros, I have cut them with heavy scissor because there’s metal inside. I have fixed them to the ring with little cable ties. The wood bird is an Easter decoration and costs  1 Euro. The best thing is I can leave it as it is, add flowers, or change the bird with something else.

RI-USO N°4: panca per il bagno // REPURPOSE No 4: bathroom bench

Proseguo con la serie di piccoli cambiamenti in casa fatti nelle vacanze…

Ho comprato questa semplice e economica panca in legno di Jysk qualche anno fa per usarla come libreria e seduta in camera del più piccolo dei miei figli, aveva l’altezza giusta per cui lui la potesse usare anche come piano di appoggio... Ora che è cresciuto è stata sostituita dalla libreria Billy (vedi post RIUSO 3), e la panca è tornata alla sua destinazione d’uso originale: ripiano e seduta per il bagno, per mia fortuna ha un colore che si intona al mobile del lavabo!

Chissà magari c’è qualcuno di voi che adesso farà l’inverso con la sua panca e la trasformerà in libreria per bambini come avevo fatto io!

I bought this simple and chip wooden bench from Jysk some years ago, to use it as bookshelf in my second child’s room, it was the right height for him to open and read the books on the top. Now that he is grown, it has been replaced by Billy bookshelf (seepost Repurpose nr 3), and the bench has gone back to its original function: place to sit in the bathroom, I’m happy its colour joins well my basin cabinet!

Maybe now someone will turn its bench into a children bookshelf, as I did!

RI-USO N°3: libreria e comodino // REPURPOSE No 3: bookshelf and nightstand

Durante le vacanze ho fatto una serie di piccoli cambiamenti in casa, adattando e cambiando la posizione e la destinazione d’uso di alcuni mobili.  Resto fedele alla mia filosofia del RIUSO che strizza l’occhio al risparmio, senza rinunciare a rinnovare casa per assecondare le esigenze sempre in evoluzione della famiglia.

La libreria e la cassettiera dello studio sono passate alla camera di uno dei miei figli, il numero dei suoi libri cresce con lui!

La panca dalla sua camera è passata in bagno, nuovi arrivi hanno aggiornato lo studio e la camera dell’altro figlio, e un portabottiglie in ferro è passato dal bagno (dove faceva da appendiabiti/portasciugamano) all’esterno dove diventerà……stop, andiamo con ordine oggi vi mostro come si presenta la camera di mio figlio, nei prossimi post il resto della storia…..

During my August holiday I made some home improvements: I’ve changed the position and use of some pieces of furniture around the rooms. I stay true to my idea of REPURPOSE what I already have, to save money but to try to satisfy new needs of my family.

So… bookshelf and little chest of drawers have come from studio to my son’s bedroom, he and his books are growing!

The bench has gone from the bedroom to the bathroom, new pieces update the studio and the other son’s bedroom, an iron bottle rack has gone from the bathroom (here was used as cloth hanger) to the garden, where it will become……stop, let’s explain step by step starting from my second son’s bedroom, in the next posts the rest of this story…..

GIUDECCA

La Giudecca è la zona di Venezia che ho frequentato meno, e sarà meta delle mie esplorazioni future. La trovo affascinante per la sua doppia faccia: più edificata verso la città e più verde verso la laguna, per le differenze architettoniche di stile con il resto della città e per quell’atmosfera che si trova solo nelle zone meno affollate dai turisti. Nei sestieri centrali, dove gli abitanti originari sono sempre meno, certe cose non si vedono più…le donne sedute fuori dalle porte di casa, lasciata aperta sulla calle o campiello, a chiacchierare con le vicine (una volta ricamare o lavorare con le perle) mi è capitato di rivederle ultimamente solo qui, nel sestier Castello e in alcune isole come Pellestrina…Così come vedere dei “campi” dove c’è ancora l’erba al centro…

Giudecca Island will be the destination of my next trips to Venice, because I don’t know it well. I find it fascinating for its double face: more buildings looking to Venice and more green areas looking to the lagoon, for the architectural differences from Venice and for that special vibe typical of the zones not so full of tourists. In central “sestieri”, where original citizens are always less, you don’t see certain scenes anymore…women sit out of the front door, left open on the “calle” or “campiello”, while chatting with neighbours (in the past also embroidering or working with glass beads).

I’ve seen those scenes, in my near past, only here , in sestier Castello or on the islands as Pellestrina… as well as “campi” that still keep grass in the centre….

IN-OFFICINA: STOFFA DAY 11-02 // FABRIC DAY

Desideravo da tempo vedere da vicino lo spazio InOfficina a Villorba di Treviso. Così ho approfittato dell’evento che si è svolto sabato scorso 11-02: LO STOFFA DAY.

Di cosa sto parlando? Ve lo spiego meglio: In-Officina è uno spazio di coworking ricavato da una ex officina meccanica che ospita da qualche anno uno showroom-studio-laboratorio di diverse attività, ma complementari che interagiscono e collaborano per offrire un servizio completo dall’home restyling alla progettazione,dal restauro al recupero di mobili, dalla decorazione alla realizzazione di accessori handmade.

I was waiting for the right occasion to visit InOfficina in Villorba –Treviso, and last Saturday 11-02 I went to LO STOFFA DAY.

Do you know what is In-Officina ? It is a coworking space, originally a garage, now become a showroom-studio-laboratory for different businesses, which complete each other and work together  to offer a complete service from home restyling to new projects, from furniture renovation to recycling, from decoration to creation of handmade accessories.

RI-USO N° 2: LA VETRINA // REPURPORE No 2: display cabinet

La storia di questa vetrina, che se ne sta nel mio soggiorno, è singolare.

Cercavo un mobile per conservare i bicchieri di cristallo, lo volevo con un suo carattere, con vetri su almeno 3 lati e naturalmente a un buon prezzo!

Utopia direte voi. In effetti è stato un colpo di fortuna: leggendo gli annunci in internet, quando ancora Subito non esisteva o quasi, vedo le foto di questo mobile e leggendo il prezzo ho pensato si trattasse di un errore: 100 euro.

This display cabinet, standing in my dining room, has a particular story.

Some years ago, I was looking for a cabinet to display my crystal glasses: I wanted a piece with character, with glass on three sides and on a budget!

Impossible, you can say.  It was really a stroke of luck: reading on-line advertisements, when they were few, I saw the pictures of this cabinet and the price seemed to me a joke: 100 Euros.

Ho telefonato e ho scoperto che il venditore era un appassionato di mobili piu o meno antichi, a livello amatoriale non per farne commercio,  ne aveva molti tutti in casa, e avendo bisogno di spazio voleva vendere proprio questo, già restaurato, a soli 100 euro, a chi se lo andava a prendere a Brescia!

Così mio marito è andato a prenderlo per me. Ma la storia non finisce qui....

With a telephone call, I discovered that the seller was a collector of antique and vintage furniture. He had many pieces in his house, but needed to free space and sold this renovated one at 100 Euros to who came to Brescia and picked it up! Therefore, my husband went there for me. However, the story is not ended…

RI-USO N° 1: cameretta // REPURPOSE No 1: bedroom furniture

Oggi parlo di ri-uso, un argomento a me molto caro. Che si parli di un mobile o di un oggetto più piccolo mi è sempre stato difficile buttare via senza prima aver almeno provato a trovare una seconda vita alle cose. Questo per due motivi: primo tendo a dare un valore affettivo agli oggetti, secondo odio lo spreco!

Today I’m talking about repurpose, a topic very dear to me. Whether it’s a piece of furniture or a smaller object, it’s always been hard for me to throw it away without at least trying to find a second life for things. This is for two reasons: first I tend to give an emotional value to objects, second I hate waste!
