PIASTRELLE NUOVE PER LA CUCINA  Trasformare un problema in una opportunità // New backsplash tiles for the kitchen  Turn a problem into a possibility

Dopo più di 20 anni la mia cucina mi piace ancora, ma son costretta per un problema a sostituire le piastrelle, le attuali sono quadrate bianche lucide e diamantate con greca in cotto. Con l’occasione cambierò l’aspiratore, dipingerò di bianco il muro e cambierò le tendine.

La scelta più importante è quali piastrelle mettere! E sono indecisa fra due tipologie:

1 piastrelle esagonali bianche lucide

2 piastrelle rettangolari bianche lucide con eventuali elementi azzurri.

Entrambe queste tipologie possono essere contemporaneamente moderne e vintage (vedi Barcellona e la metropolitana di Londra), per questo credo possano abbinarsi ad una cucina classica in ciliegio come la mia.

Le piastrelle esagonali richiamerebbero anche elementi del salotto come le tende e il mobile, e mi piace che ci sia un filo conduttore fra i diversi ambienti della casa.

Le piastrelle rettangolari, con la posa impilata, si accordano geometricamente con la forma dei cassetti e delle vetrine della cucina, farei qualcosa con degli elementi azzurri (colore presente in molti accessori della mia cucina) dove adesso ci sono le greche in cotto, perché corrispondono a due abbassamenti del piano di marmo: credenza e zona cottura.

After more than 20 years I still like my kitchen, but I am forced to replace the backsplash tiles, due to a problem, now they are white, squared, diamonded edged and glossy with  terracotta decoration. I’ll change the extractor hood, paint white the wall, and change the curtains.

The most important choice is which tiles! And I am considering two types:

1 glossy white hexagonal tiles

2 white glossy rectangular tiles with some blue elements.

Both of them can be modern and vintage (think to Barcelona and the London subway) at the same time, so I think they can be combined with a classic cherry kitchen like mine.

The hexagonal tiles would also recall elements of the living room such as curtains and furniture, and I like that there is a common thread between the different rooms of the house.

The rectangular tiles (longer than subway ones), with the stacked laying, accord geometrically with the shape of drawers and display cabinets of the kitchen, I would do something with some blue elements (color present in many accessories of my kitchen) where now there is  the terracotta decoration, because they correspond to two lower parts of the marble top: cupboard and cooking area.
