CLS CUSTOMIZE CONCRETE: oggetti decorativi in cemento // concrete decor items

Oggi resto in tema artigianato. L’anno scorso ad un mercatino ho conosciuto Camilla e Francesca(vedi post qui), due architetto che non hanno avuto paura di sporcarsi le mani, e hanno dato vita al progetto CLS. Che cos’è? Ve lo spiegano loro in questa intervista.

I keep talking about handicraft today. Last year at a little market I met Camilla and Francesca(post here), two architects not afraid to get their hands dirty, so they have started the CLS project. What’s that? They explain it all in this interview.

Presentatevi, chi siete?// Who are you?

Buongiorno! Siamo davvero felici di avere la possibilità di parlare di CLS e di noi.

Siamo Camilla e Francesca della provincia di Treviso, ci siamo conosciute ormai otto anni fa all’università.

Abbiamo studiato entrambe Architettura presso l’Università IUAV di Venezia, e abbiamo lavorato insieme a diversi progetti, condividendo idee, interessi e discussioni infinite.

Ci siamo laureate lo scorso anno, siamo rimaste buone amiche e continuiamo a condividere i nostri interessi.

Good morning! We are really happy to have the chance to talk about us.

We are Camilla and Francesca, both from Treviso district and we met each other at university, already 8 years ago.

We studied architecture in Venice and we worked together for many school projects, sharing ideas and interests but mostly never-ending struggles. We graduated last year and since then struggles are over, but we became good friends and we still like sharing our interests.

Cos’è CLS? Quand’è nato questo progetto e perché? // What’s CLS? When did this project begin and why?

CLS è l’acronimo della parola italiana "calcestruzzo", che significa cemento ed è l'ingrediente principale del nostro progetto!

Era il settembre del 2017 quando ci siamo rese conto che la vita universitaria stava per finire e che presto avremmo iniziato a lavorare, che saremmo cresciute, quindi perché non giocare con il cemento per sentirsi di nuovo bambine?

Così è nato il progetto: sperimentando l'uso del materiale che entrambe amiamo, creando piccoli oggetti. All'inizio era una collezione di blocchi di cemento che assomigliava più ad un fallimento che a cose veramente utili, ma dopo un po’ sono iniziati i miglioramenti e i vasi sono stati il nostro primo successo. Questo ci ha motivate e abbiamo pensato a vari oggetti.

Ora proponiamo una collezione completa di cemento per decorare la casa!

CLS stays for the Italian word “calcestruzzo”, which means concrete and it is the main ingredient of our project! It was September 2017 when we realized that university life was almost over and we would have started working soon, got older and busy, so why not playing with concrete to feel children again?

This is how the project started: just experimenting the use of the material that we both love for creating little things. At the beginning, it was a quite big and nice collection of concrete blocks that looked more like epic fails than real useful things, but after a while we improved a little and the planters were our first success. This motivated us enough to keep on trying and to start thinking of creating other items.

We ended up with a complete concrete items collection to decor the house!

Accettate anche ordinazioni? // Do you accept orders?

Certo, siamo ben felici di realizzare oggetti su ordinazione! I tempi tecnici sono quelli dell’asciugatura del cemento, quindi un paio di settimane, ma normalmente disponiamo di un paio di pezzi pronti per tipo.

Sure! We are really happy to receive orders! We use to have some items stored at any time, but in case of massive orders, it might take a bit longer to get what you bought. Do not forget that concrete needs some weeks to dry ;)

Realizzate anche oggetti su disegno del cliente? // Do you realize objects based on customers’ design?

Assolutamente si! Siamo sempre molto curiose di sapere cosa piace alla gente e di trarre ispirazione dal modo in cui pensano di utilizzare il calcestruzzo.

Dal momento che siamo molto legate al nostro design e al nostro stile, a volte è difficile trovare un compromesso, ma se le tue idee si adattano alle nostre, saremo liete di creare qualcosa insieme!

Yes, absolutely! We are always very curious to know what people like and to get inspired by the way they think about using concrete.

Since we are pretty attached to our design and style, sometimes it is hard to find a compromise. But if your ideas fits to ours, we would be pleased to make it together!
